ECOWAS leaders appoint President Buhari as Champion of Coronavirus response in Africa

Earlier today, during a teleconference call of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Summit on COVID19, the ECOWAS members as well as the leaders, jointly appointed Nigeria's president, President Muhammadu Buhari as the champion and coordinator of the sub-regions’ response to coronavirus, under Chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Niger, His Excellency, Mahamadou Issoufou.

As a result, President Buhari through his special assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina therefore encouraged all African leaders to have all hands on deck as the fight against Coronavirus intensifies, and also went ahead to state some of the modus operandi through which his government is taking care of the virus.
He stated:
“In every challenging situation such as the current one, there are also opportunities. Our region must therefore seek to find those opportunities provided by this gloomy global outlook for its benefit by embarking on the implementation of such critical policies, which before now, will be difficult to accept”.
Reacting to this, President Buhari's aide on news media, Bashir Ahmad thus tweeted this afternoon, stating thus:
President @MBuhari’s appointment as Champion of the COVID-19 response, by the ECOWAS Leaders took place today at the Extraordinary ECOWAS Summit on COVID-19 which was held via teleconferencing under the Chairmanship of H.E. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger.
