List of Catholic Priests In Nigeria That Got Married After leaving Their Calling

For an individual to be ordained a Catholic priest, the person must have agreed to remain celibate till his days on earth are over. He must not have married before his ordination, and will remain so till his end on earth. Prior to the first lateral council in 1123, Catholics priest are known to marry and had children. But after the first lateral council, a decision was reached that catholic priests are forbidden from getting married. Those already married should renounce their wives and do penance. 

So, before anyone becomes a priest, the person must be informed about the forbidden order of not getting married. They are given time to think before they are anointed as priests. 

Since the first lateral council till now, some priests after taking the priestly oath, still go out of the way to get married. Some marry and have children secretly. There are several calls for the Catholic church to allow priests to marry. Even at that, it's still wrong for a priest to get married after he have a knowledge of what he was entering. 

Below are some of the people ordained as Catholic Priest in Nigeria but went out of their oath to marry. 

1. Godspower Inalegwu 

He is a retired vibrant priest from Benue state. Many people were perplexed as to why he would leave his priesthood to marry. Prior to his resignation as a Catholic priest, he was alleged to have been kidnapped. I was among the faithfuls that prayed fervently for his released. The news that later surfaced was that he was never kidnapped. That it was part of his plan to get a surface for his plan to resign. And without failing, he used his alleged kidnap as an excuse for leaving. He said that the abduction had an effect on him.

Few weeks later, a picture of his wedding surfaced online. 

2. Mike Boni Bazza 

Mike Boni was a Catholic priest for 25 years before resigning to get married to Mrs Ratilla. He wanted to have another experience of life outside priesthood. He is reported to be a lecturer at Veritas University. 

He still married in the Catholic Church. 

3. Patrick Edet

The Akwa Ibom ex priest who resigned as a Catholic priest in 2017. He was rumored to have left the priesthood because of a lady, which he denied. His reason for resigning is because he wants to make heaven. Was he committing sin as a Catholic priest? I can't say. 

Few months later, he married Mrs Inyene Akpan.

In 2019, the couple welcomed a beautiful baby.

4. Peter Zuni

Well, ex priest Peter Zuni who once served at the Queen of Apostle Catholic Church, Kakuri Parish, Kaduna state, did not resign on his own accord. According to Sun, he had married two women (though one was late), and had children with them while still a priest. 

His secret later came to light. The church transferred him to a village where he was alleged to have been sacked later on.
